Pilot plant for the separation of hydrogen from natural gas
Country: Italy
Year: 2020-2021
Activity: Hydrogen – Green & Power
Feasibility, feed design and support to the customer for the permitting process of the pilot plant on an industrial scale in order to test membrane systems for the selective removal of hydrogen from a natural gas-hydrogen mixture.
In view of transporting hydrogen mixed with natural gas through the national network, membrane systems will be necessary to avoid sending hydrogen to specific gas users that cannot accept hydrogen.
The plant, sized for 27.000 Sm3/h of natural gas, is connected directly to the gas grid, pure hydrogen is injected in order to achieve a concentration of max 10% of H2.
The plant consists of a gas conditioning unit (filtration and heat recovery), membrane separation unit in order to recovery the hydrogen previously injected (H2 concentration downstream the membrane unit max 0,5%), compression unit and recycle of permeate at the inlet of the plant.
The scope of the pilot plant is to test membrane systems to selectively filter hydrogen.
DISTINCTIVE DATA:
- Natural Gas Flow Rate 27’000 Smc/h;
- H2 input concentration 10% max;
- H2 output concentration 0,5 % vol.
- Separation unit: membrane type
